How are traditional medical therapists chosen?

TMT consulted with highly respected teachers and doctors in your area to determine which traditional medicine practitioners are renowned for providing outcome based therapies quickly, which resulted in measurable increased mobility, relief from pain, and symptom reduction. These individuals also help us to qualify other practitioners so you can be assured of working with someone who will get results the first time. Although the exact criteria we use to qualify therapists is confidential, we can tell you that a strong clinical success record, unblemished current license, and mastery of their chosen modality are at the top of the list.
We also rely on you, the patient, to rate your experience with practitioners, so others can benefit from personal, firsthand experience and best practices can evolve organically for the benefit of all who seek traditional therapy.

Why should I book a therapist from traditionalmedicaltherapy.com?

Traditional Medical Therapy makes it easy to work with the most respected practitioners of traditional medicine in your area. We understand that for many, choosing a specialist can be a daunting task, so we’re here to help. Our goal is to provide verified traditional medical therapists who have seen measurable results over and over. That saves you time and money.

Our screening process is very stringent, and designed to make sure that the therapist, or practitioner you find here can help you achieve better health quickly and efficiently. Because we take great care to feature only the very best in his or her field, we cannot verify every practitioner, everywhere, at once. If you have a practitioner who has helped you, and your consider them to be a talented, professional, and knowledgeable therapist, please contact us about them so that we can begin the process of featuring them on our site, and we thank you for doing so!

I already have a traditional medical practitioner that I trust, why should I use someone else?

That’s great news! We don’t want to interfere with your existing relationship between your medical practitioner and you. If you are getting the results you want and are happy with your care then by all means don’t change! However, many people find that working with other practitioners can have exciting results. No traditional medical practitioner knows all the answers or has mastered every technique. When you are ready to try a different type of therapy we’ll be here ready to provide you the very best traditional medical professionals in your area.

Why don’t I see the traditional medical therapy I’m looking for in your list of services?

There are thousands of modalities of traditional medical therapies out there! If you have experienced success with a particular type of treatment or therapy please tell us about it and we will do our best to find the best practitioners in your area and feature them in our database. We really do want the best traditional medical therapists to be featured, so please don’t hesitate to recommend someone you have worked with.

What kinds of traditional medical therapies do you offer?

Take a look at the different types of therapies offered on the Therapies section of our website. Each modality affects the body differently and our therapists all have hundreds, if not thousands of hours of training and experience in their specialty.  Speak with a couple practitioners because their recommendations are culled from thousands of years of empirical medical knowledge from which they can determine what type of therapy may be the most effective for you.  It is important to understand that none of the professionals on the TMT site ever offer any “massage” of a sexual or “performance” nature.
We will try to ensure that you get the best possible traditional medical therapy for you. If you have had success with a particular modality or would like to try something new, please don’t hesitate to tell us, or just schedule a session!

Who are the therapists who will be working with me?

All of our therapists are all licensed by the State where they practice, when applicable, are stringently vetted, and possess personal liability insurance.  Our screening process, which includes an oral and practical interview, background check, and business ethics exam, allows us to evaluate their character and skill level to a very high degree. We will never recomend a therapist who we would not be thrilled to have work on us in our home.

How long are the therapy sessions?

Your session will last the allotted time that your schedule. That means if you pay for a 60-minute Shiatsu treatment you will have a full 60 minutes of hands-on treatment, and not a moment less.  If you ever feel like you didn’t get a full session, please call us and we will make it right. Our robust feedback and review system is there to insure that therapist's employ best business practices at all times.

Can I schedule a group of sessions, or ongoing therapy sessions?

Your therapist will generally quote you a specific number of sessions they feel will be needed to treat your unique condition. With soft tissue disorders that number is usually only one! Our main goal is always to treat you with as few sessions as possible.  Many times, our therapists will use other traditional medical specialists in conjunction with their treatment, so it’s likely that you will work with more than one therapist, if needed.
Of course, if you ever want to try different a therapist you are encouraged to do so. Our therapists get as much out of working with a wide variety of patients as you get from experiencing many therapies! It makes us all better. On the other hand, if you find a therapist who can continually provide measurable relief, and you are happy, why change?

IN HOME THERAPY

In Home Therapy

How to book and prepare for an in-home therapy session.

Does TMT have more than just in-home massage practitioners?

Absolutely! You may schedule an in-home therapy session with any of the practitioners on this site who are designated as mobile. This can include acupuncturist, NAET practitioners, Nutritionists, and Oriental Medical Doctors, to name a few. Every city has its own laws concerning in-home therapies, and every practitioner’s business insurance is different. If you’re unsure whether your city allows in-home therapy, please contact us and we will find out if it’s permitted and who the best practitioners are. Then we'll send you an email with scheduling and payment instructions in case you decide to try an in-home therapy.

I booked an appointment but I can’t make it! What do I do?

Mistakes and emergencies happen. If you can’t make it to an appointment you booked then give your therapist office a call. Generally they are happy to work with you to set up another appointment. Our robust review and feedback engine even tracks how well therapists respect your time, so they are encouraged to accommodate you.  However they are also very busy so please respect their time as well and do your best to provide at least 24-hour notice of your need to cancel/change your appointment. Some therapists have cancellation policies that require a certain time frame for cancellation, so please read their policies carefully before making an appointment.

How quickly can I have a licensed therapist to my door?

Many times TMT practitioners are able to accommodate your appointment in as little as one hour. However, because our therapists are very busy helping seriously ill patients, we ask that you give us as much advance notice as you possibly can. Our therapists appreciate the flexibility to schedule well in advance because it allows them to put together timely treatment plans so that a patient can see measurable relief as quickly as possible, and then move on to wellness massage as a treat, or luxury. Remember, our goal is to remedy your pain or dis-ease within as few sessions as possible, saving you time and money.

How do I prepare my space to receive in-home therapy?

When making an appointment, please indicate that you have enough space for your therapist to set up either a table or a chair and be able to work around it.  A 5ft x 8ft area is sufficient for a table, or as close as possible. If there isn’t enough room your therapist may bring a chair, which only requires about 5ft x 5ft, however some therapies, such as Thai massage, preclude the use of a chair.  Your therapist has all the supplies required, including massage oil and/or lotion, however only a few of the therapies offered use them. If you have chosen one of these modalities, your therapist should leave you in privacy to disrobe to your comfort level and position yourself on the table underneath a provided sheet or towel. Professional draping techniques are used to ensure that your personal comfort level is respected at all times.
Most traditional medical therapies are done fully clothed, and loose, comfortable clothing is preferred. Should you desire anything else to increase your comfort level, just ask!

ON SITE CORPORATE BODY WORK

On Site Corporate Bodywork

How to book and prepare for corporate massage therapy.

How do I get a practitioner to come to my place of business?

Great decision! Studies have shown that massage increases employee productiveness, decreases fatigue, and measurably reduces insurance claims among companies who offer it. Our therapists are experts at ergonomics and workplace stress related injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, lumbago, headaches, and leg cramps.  So go ahead and give us a call, or use our site to make an inquiry. TMT will make sure that one or more licensed massage therapists arrive at your place of business on time and ready to help you be more productive.

How does corporate bodywork work?

If your company has decided to offer bodywork to its employees, congratulations! Studies have shown that just 15 minutes of bodywork can help you feel more alert, and help prevent chronic injuries stemming from improper sitting posture, typing, mouse usage, and screen placement. You may call TMT directly or contact the therapist of your choice. Most therapists are happy to work by the minute, if there is enough interest. If your company has decided to pay for your massage, even better! Your chosen therapist will handle all the scheduling and payments with your HR person.  If you’re company is offering the service but you are paying, simply talk to the therapist to choose a time and duration. Most therapists accept card payments as well as cash and most individual sessions last between 10-20 minutes

What if I booked a session but can’t keep my appointment?

You are a busy person, and sometimes blocking out 20-30 minutes for a massage, however much needed, just isn’t feasible. Don’t worry; most therapists are very flexible and understand the dynamic nature of the workplace. Usually, there is extra time to fit it in while the therapist is there. If you just can’t find the time to take advantage of bodywork at the office, consider scheduling an in-home massage in the evening. There are generally no fees of any kind for a missed in-office corporate session, however it is very much appreciated that you cancel the session with the therapist as soon as possible so that someone else may take advantage of the available time slot.

What should I wear for an in-office massage?

Corporate massage therapy is designed to be quick, vigorous, and effective. There usually just isn’t time for a full body massage. You won’t have to disrobe, and your therapist won’t be using oils or lotions. TMT recommends that you wear loose, comfortable clothing if possible. Oftentimes it’s a good idea to bring a t-shirt that you can change into before your appointment, if your dress code is business formal or business professional.  TMT therapists are trained to give effective bodywork through clothing. That way you can be in and out quickly and get back to work feeling relieved, re-aligned, and focused.

What if I want a full hour of massage at work?

If you would like a full hour or more of massage bodywork at your office, most therapists are happy to accommodate you! They will work with your administration staff to make sure that everyone who wants bodywork can get it. Sometimes therapists will be scheduled two, or even three times a week at large companies. It’s up to your company as to how often therapists can be available, and generally long massages can leave one so relaxed that getting back into the swing of work is a challenge. We recommend about 10-20 minutes maximum, targeting trouble areas like the neck and shoulders for office workers, and back and arms for those who labor physically.  If you absolutely require more bodywork than 10-20 minutes, please consider scheduling an in-home massage therapist after work or on the weekend, when you can relax afterward.

I want a massage, but I would rather pay cash. Is this possible?

Most therapists do accept cash, but generally prefer that you pay by card. If your scheduled massage is delayed because a therapist needs to find change for the co-worker before you, or needs to spend time filling a receipt for services, that’s not fair to you. By using the therapist's preferred payment method, you are assured of having your massage on time and the transition between clients is seamless.  Remember, there are no cancellation fees for missed on-site office massage appointments when your company sets them up through TMT.

Where will my bodywork session take place?

Traditional medical massage should be done in a quiet, private space. If your company does not have a room that can be utilized for bodywork we recommend that you look into subsidizing in-home massage for your employees.  Just because you utilize all your available space shouldn’t mean that your hard working employees should miss out on bodywork! Although we can’t send therapists to an individual’s home for just a 15 minute massage, a subsidy of $20-$30 per employee goes a long way and helps your employees get much needed bodywork. In-home sessions are generally limited to one or more hours.  Have your employees use your corporate account to book in-home bodywork and your therapist will apply whatever subsidy you would like to offer.

Can I have a licensed acupuncturist come to my office?

Yes, provided the city where you work allows acupuncturists to practice medicine outside of a clinical setting. Bear in mind that acupuncture sessions are generally longer than a massage and will often require the patient to disrobe. We recommend that you read our FAQ’s about mobile acupuncture before scheduling an in-office acupuncturist to make sure that on-site acupuncture is a good choice for your company. For corporate wellness, we generally recommend a licensed massage therapist to be the most cost effective and timely treatment for your employees.

Why can’t I have an acupuncturist come to my home or office?

Some cities allow for licensed acupuncturists to travel to your home or office, and some do not. We do our very best to insure that acupuncturist and massage therapists are in compliance with all local laws, but we cannot be held responsible for how every practitioner conducts his or her business. If you don’t see mobile acupuncture offered in your city it’s because your city’s laws prohibit acupuncture in the home or the local laws are unclear.  We hold our therapists to the highest ethical standards and if they are offering mobile acupuncture it is because it’s permitted in that specific city.

SCHEDULE OFFICE VISIT

Scheduled Office Visit

How to book and prepare for a scheduled office visit.

How will I know if my appointment is scheduled?

Once you have decided on the traditional medical therapy or therapist you want, and have set your preferred appointment time and date, you will usually receive an email confirmation.  All practitioners operate their businesses differently and some will call a day before to confirm. If there is any doubt that your scheduled appointment is available, we recommend asking the practitioner to send an email confirmation, if they have not already done so.

I scheduled a session but got a message saying the therapist can’t accommodate me!

When you book an appointment with one of the therapists on the TMT website, we want your experience to me a smooth and easy as possible. If you have a confirmed appointment that was cancelled by your therapist, please contact TMT at (323) 505-8802 and tell us about it. We will make an inquiry immediately, and will usually find another therapist to take your original appointment time. We require the highest level of professionalism from the practitioners on TMT, so this shouldn't happen very often, if at all.

I got an email/phone call from a therapist saying they need to change/cancel my appointment!

The best therapists in the industry are very busy, because they get results for their clients! Sometimes things come up, such as an emergency with another client because of an injury, or medical complications. If you are contacted by a clinic to change or cancel your appointment, go ahead and change it with them if it's convenient.   Our policies protect you in the event of a cancellation by a therapist and they are required to issue you a 100% refund of the full price you paid to set the appointment.  Our robust feedback engine even tracks how well therapists respect their client’s time. If a therapist has had to cancel a session but has then gone above and beyond to accommodate you, please leave them a glowing review in that respect so that others know what to expect!

How should I prepare for my clinical therapy visit?

Most traditional medical therapists will prefer loose, comfortable clothing that can be removed easily for acupuncture, for example. Some medical massage therapists will use oils or lotions whereas other modalities are performed fully clothed. If you are unsure, please refer to the THERAPIES section of the site and read the descriptions. All practitioners will want you to be well hydrated, relaxed, and sometimes even accompanied by a friend to drive you home. Certain techniques can be very relaxing, so driving afterward is usually not recommended. If you think that driving may be difficult for you after a treatment, please consider an in-home treatment.
